But undoubtedly, you or somebody close to you has had the apparently paranormal experience of "seeing" the future or distant events. Most of us have dreamed something that eventually came true, had a correct hunch about an event miles away or predicted an out-of-the-blue phone call from an old friend. The experience is incredibly strange -- positively spooky -- but it happens all the time. So what's going on here? Depends on who you ask. A sizable chunk of the world's population attributes these strange events to extrasensory perception (ESP), a special sense beyond vision, hearing, smell, touch and taste. Unlike ordinary senses, ESP has virtually unlimited range, and it's experienced mainly as thoughts rather than bodily sensations. Based on these observations, we propose the task of multi-query video retrieval (MQVR) where multiple text queries are provided to the model simultaneously (bottom of Figure 1). It addresses the noise effects introduced by imperfect annotations in a simple and effective way. We re-purpose existing video retrieval datasets and perform an extensive investigation of state-of-the-art models adapted towards handling multiple queries. We first propose different ways of using multiple queries only during inference, and then explore various ways of learning retrieval models explicitly with multiple queries provided at training time. Our experiments over three different datasets demonstrate that MQVR is a more realistic setting that more optimally leverages the capabilities of modern retrieval systems, and also provides a better evaluation setup for benchmarking the latest advances. We find that dedicated multi-query training methods can provide large gains (up to 21% in R@1) over simply treating each query independently and combining their similarity scores.|Standard copper plugs will last from 10,000 to 20,000 miles, while more expensive platinum or iridium spark plugs can last much longer.
